John Wallace

John’s passion is to help spiritual seekers discover the fullness of a life-giving relationship with Jesus Christ. His lifelong objective is to reach people for Jesus Christ, to see the Good News and the values of God’s Kingdom penetrate the networks of communities and transform them. His strategy is to develop communities of fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ: persons who worship the LORD, demonstrate Christian values in their relationships, and represent the Kingdom throughout their spheres of influence.

John encourages maturing followers to exercise their spiritual gifts, express spirit-led creativity, and develop skills to proclaim effectively the Good News to a contemporary culture. He loves to disciple new believers and to encourage future leaders. He says, “My mission begins with my immediate family and extends to those whom God gives me opportunity to touch.” John acknowledges the Bible as his authority.

John was born in Freeport, New York and raised in Florida from the age of seven. He came to Christ at the age of twelve and sensed God’s call to ministry at nineteen. John received his M.Div. and Ph.D. (1994) from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas. He is licensed and ordained by Birchman Baptist Church (Fort Worth, Texas), where he served as the Minister to Single Adults.

In 1995, John planted Canyon Church, in Mission Viejo, California. He recalls, “Planting our first church was alternately the most exhilarating and the most exhausting experience we could have imagined. During the six years we served at Canyon, we saw many people come to Christ and grow in their faith. We were blessed with many friends and learned valuable lessons.” While in California, John also served as an Adjunct Professor at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary (Southern California Campus). He taught classes in the Department of Evangelism.

In 2001, John and his wife, Joyce, were drawn to the Puget Sound region because of the great spiritual need there. In February 2002, John was invited to be the guest speaker at Lake Hills Church in Bellevue, Washington. Soon, he was called to be the senior pastor of the church, where he served until 2008. During that time, John also used his vocal and guitar playing skills to lead Worship each week.

John currently resides in Raleigh, North Carolina and is working to build bridges between the church planting and business communities. As an Inscape™ Certified DiSC© trainer, he is trained in the administration and interpretation of the DISC Personal Profile System. DISC is a highly validated learning instrument designed to help organizations improve interpersonal relationships, teamwork and communication.
